Not necessarily at the forefront of anti-tracking devices, unlike certain players like Brave Or DuckDuckGo Browser, Google Chrome would be about to improve in this area. Currently in beta, a new function allows you to hide your IP address to reduce advertising targeting. A good start ?
“IP Protection”. This is the name given to an experimental feature, currently only deployed on Google Chrome Canary, the preview version of Google’s browser. We learn that this option allows users to hide their IP address when “ suspicious trackers » are detected during navigation.
It would soon be possible to “hide” your IP on Chrome
In short, this function allows you to hide your IP address when you are connected to Chrome. It limits the information that trackers deemed suspicious can “see” your online activity, and routes certain content requests through third-party servers rather than directly to the final website.
As explained MSPowerUser, this function will therefore have the effect of intercepting content requests for certain websites, then routing them to anonymous privacy servers. This approach hides your original IP address from the destination website, preventing trackers from creating detailed profiles based on your browsing behavior.
A still experimental feature
Although relevant, and as mentioned above, this functionality is only at the experimental stage. Understand that it is not yet stable… and that it may, like most of the new features deployed for testing on Google Chrome Canary, contain bugs.
We also already perceive a certain number of limits: it will probably not make your browsing completely anonymous (in particular if you access content subject to geographical restrictions, we read), routing through third-party servers could possibly slightly slow down navigation, and it is unknown which specific trackers and which websites will be affected by this new function.
