What if it became easier to know what that unknown number was that called you while you were in the shower. Google is working on this exact feature.

Have you ever painfully copied an unknown phone number into Google in the hope of finding out where it came from? Good news, Google will soon make the operation even simpler. According to information unearthed by the specialized site Piunika Web, the “Phone” application on Pixel smartphones could be equipped with a “To research» which would automatically launch a Google query with the number to identify.

The feature is coming soon

Concretely, this functionality would be installed next to the “Add“, “Message” And “Historical» which are already present in the call log under each unknown number. In one click, it would allow you to investigate the origin of a number via a Google search. This would make it much easier to determine whether it is a legitimate number or a spam call, which could then be blocked in three clicks.

This feature doesn’t do anything more than what is already possible by copying and pasting an unknown number into Google manually, but just allows you to do it with fewer steps. At the moment, only Japanese users seem to have access to the tool, but if you have a rooted phone and the “Phone” app in beta version 127.0.620688474, you can test the functionality, if you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty. Otherwise, we will have to wait patiently for Google to deign to deploy the tool on the French market, which, a priori, should only be a matter of a few weeks, or even a few months.

Compatible with all Android mobiles

If you don’t have a Pixel phone, but still want to be on the starting blocks to test the feature, no worries. The “Google Phone” app can be downloaded and installed from the Play Store on any Android mobile. The application already offers protection against spam, automatic identification of certain numbers and call screening.

The simplified search for unknown numbers will therefore complete an already well-stocked arsenal of functionality and will provide such basic assistance that we wonder why it has not been natively integrated into Android for years now. And if you don’t want to wait to fight spam, you can preventively block the 12 prefixes now assigned to cold calling or install the Orange Telephone app.
