A 20-year-old surfer was attacked by a shark on the coast of Australia on Monday afternoon. The attack happened in Crescent Head in New South Wales between Brisbane and Sydney – a popular surf spot because of its waves.
The 20-year-old survived the attack loudly «9News» seriously injured. He was flown to a hospital. Beachgoers could previously pull the man out of the water and take care of him until the emergency doctors called arrived.
Father thanks first responders
The surfer’s father thanks the beachgoers, who reacted so quickly. “The first responders are responsible for ensuring that our boy is still alive,” he told “9News”.
According to the authorities, the shark that attacked the surfer was probably a great white shark. The bite marks on the surfboard indicate this.
Great white shark was ten feet long
“Our shark researchers have analyzed the photos of the bite and have come to the conclusion that a great white shark about three meters in length is probably responsible for the bite,” said the authority.
Last year Australia had a record of fatal attacks by the dreaded predatory fish: Eight people were bitten to death – more than since 1934. (euc)
