Greece puts in the opening turbo – the first German tourists already there

The Greek government wants to save the start of the tourism season despite the currently high corona numbers. Tourism Minister Haris Theoharis is calling for various pilot projects even before the planned start of the season, which was targeted for mid-May due to the corona, reported the Greek business newspaper “Naftemporiki” on Monday.

The first planes with German tourists landed on Crete

At the weekend, the first planes with German tourists landed on Crete. According to media reports, the guests do not live in hotels, but in private accommodation and pensions because the hotels are still closed due to a lack of bookings. On April 12th, around 200 Dutch people are expected to fly to Rhodes on a trial basis and spend a week there in a hotel complex. It is reported that 25,000 people have applied for it.

Tourists in Greece must show a negative PCR test that is no more than 72 hours old when they enter Greece and are also often subjected to a rapid test on arrival. Then they have to adhere to a seven-day quarantine, as the German Foreign Office announced on Monday. In practice, however, this quarantine is hardly controlled in Greece. The argument: the people entering were tested twice anyway.

Dissatisfaction with corona policy is growing

According to a recent survey by the polling institute Metron Analysis, Greek dissatisfaction is growing with the government’s handling of the pandemic. In the 17- to 34-year-old age group, 66% are not satisfied with the measures taken; 59% of the 35 to 44 year olds hold this view.
