Harmony wants to create new tokens to compensate investors

The hacker attack on the blockchain platform Harmony was almost a month ago. By exploiting the main bridge “Horizon”, unknown persons managed to steal around 100 million US dollars in various cryptocurrencies. A so-called whitehat offer, in which the attacker could keep part of the sum as a kind of expense allowance for the refund of the coins, failed.

In general, immediate compensation is currently impossible due to a lack of reserves, writes Harmony in one blog post. Instead, the team puts two alternative proposals to the vote. In both cases, a hard fork should take place first. The financial damage is then to be offset by newly generated ONE tokens.

The Harmony community was outraged by the compensation plans. Some fear that the inflationary issue will cause the ONE token to lose value. If the measure goes through like this, it would be comparable to money creation by central banks.
