Nvidia admitted that its latest drivers could in some cases lead to an increase in processor (CPU) usage when leaving a game. This problem is linked to a bug observed on the Nvidia Container process.
Does your CPU usage suddenly increase when you quit a game? A priori, the problem does not come from your machine… but from Nvidia. This is what Tom Warren, journalist for The Verge, indicated a few hours ago on Twitter.
The news has since been picked up by the specialized site VideoCardz, which specifies that Nvidia has confirmed that a bug was indeed present on its latest drivers (531.18). The latter can cause a 10 to 15% increase (or even more in some cases) in processor (CPU) usage, especially when the user quits a game he had launched. A problem that is all the more disabling as it can be difficult to spot if you do not go through an analysis of the current processes (via the task manager, for example).
The Nvidia Container process pointed out
In this case, these performance problems come from a bug related to the Nvidia Container process. For a reason not detailed, the latter imposes a “very high” use of the processor immediately after the connection, or after the closing of the games, notes Tom Warren, who recommends for his part to return to the previous drivers ( 528.49 WHQL).
This is indeed the only real solution in the immediate future. Unless you just force quit the Nvidia Container process every time it does something… or restart your PC every time the problem appears.

On Reddit, a user also indicated that deleting certain DLL elements, in the directory, could solve the bug. A solution that we find difficult to recommend, however, as handling these files can impact the stability of your PC.

Apart from going back to the old drivers, the wisest solution is to wait for the deployment of a patch. Nvidia, which quickly recognized the existence of this CPU overuse problem by its Nvidia Container process, should logically offer us a fix shortly.
