An iPhone 15 Pro Max user purchased a low-end cable to use with his smartphone. After leaving the phone to charge overnight, the owner finds the cable and the phone damaged. The consequences could have been even more serious.
Charging your phone is a seemingly trivial procedure. A wall charger. A cable. A phone. Here we go. The truth is quite different. Particularly at a time when smartphones support powers can go up to 200 watts and where the chargers are capable of emitting energy with this same power. He charges his iPhone with a generic cable and ends up burned
What happens when you use an unsuitable or even poor quality cable with a smartphone capable of supporting fast charging? It just ends badly. That’s what one Reddit user learned the hard way. In a post accompanied by a photo that you find below, he tells the details of his story. One evening, he plugs in his iPhone 15 Pro Max for optimized nighttime charging. The next day he gets up and discovers damaged cable and burn marks on the edge of the smartphone. Is this a consequence of a poorly controlled overload by the cable? Or is it because the charger is too powerful? We don’t have the answer to this question.
When trying to unplug the phone, the cable tears, leaving the USB-C connection in the iPhone port. Furthermore, it is slightly burned fingers. In the comments following his story, the unfortunate man admits to having purchased a “generic” cable on Amazon, most certainly purchased much cheaper than an official Apple or certified “Made For iPhone” USB-C cable. He ends his story by specifying that the iPhone’s port is damaged, preventing the phone from charging or connecting to a computer. And the repair will certainly be quite expensive.
This mishap confirms that the quality of the accessories is just as important as that of the phone itself. Especially since electrical problems can cause very serious accidents, whether burns for users or fires. We can only regret that more and more smartphone manufacturers no longer provide the charger, or even the USB cable, with their products. We cannot advise you enough to be extremely vigilant when purchasing a charging accessory.
