How the end of Furies on Netflix foreshadows season 2

The 8 episodes of Furies are on Netflix. The French series, packed with action and carried by Marina Foïs, Lina el Arabi and Mathieu Kassovitz, is enjoying enormous audience success on the platform, top 1 in the ranking. Is a season 2 possible? What narrative arc could emerge there?

It took more than 3 years to get started, produce and shoot Furies, according to its producers. It paid off: the French action series was quickly propelled to the top of the Netflix rankings, since it went online on March 1, 2024. Can this success lead to a season 2? The ingredients are there.

Inspired by Greco-Roman mythology, it presents an alternative Paris, held by organized crime: only the presence of a Fury (Marina Foïs) maintains the balance between the five mafia families. Lyna (Lina El Arabi) is led to encounter the Fury, in her quest for revenge. Their meeting is only the beginning of a tumultuous journey, strewn with shootings and a conspiracy against the five families.

The conspiracy led by Lyna’s father ends badly. The character of Driss, played by Mathieu Kassovitz, is killed by Selma – the Fury, his own sister. At the end of this whole chase, Lyna is on the run — remember that she initially turned herself in to the police and that Damocles’ assassins are still behind her. In fact, she is forced to join Selma permanently: the latter explains to her that it is better than fleeing from country to country.

Damocles gets his hands on Olympus

This pact concluded, the problem of Olympus must still be resolved: it was they who called on Damocles to defeat the Fury and Lyna. How can we convince them to break this contract on their heads and call on them again? Selma arrives in the council room with confidence: in front of the family members, she explains that they cannot do without her. But with no response, Selma and Lyna grow closer…and discover that the heads of the family have been shot.

They are then surrounded by heavily armed soldiers, and face a man who asks them to swear allegiance: it is none other than the leader of the Damocles group who, it seems, has decided to take the lead of the Olympus.

This ending already foreshadows a possible plot for a season 2: it is clear that the Fury will not really accept that Olympus remains under the aegis of one and the same person. But Selma and Lyna will have to work in the shadows: their strike force is clearly inferior to that of Damocles. So a whole new plot is emerging, with new issues.

Added to this is a new intimate intrigue: Lyna must find her mother. We do not know, at this stage, where she may be. Could this overlap with Damocles?

These threads will only be unraveled if Netflix orders a second season for the French series. But faced with such audience success, which is reminiscent of that of Lupine (already running for three seasons), there is little doubt about a renewal for a new burst of episodes.
