If there is a film that deserves to be banned for children under 16, it’s him!

Immerse yourself in the bloody and uncompromising universe of this film released in 2022 which narrowly avoided the ban on under-18s!

This film was rated under 16 with a warning and even almost ended up with an under 18 ban due to its non-stop violence. That is to say ! It’s called The Sadness, and you may have missed it when it hit theaters in summer 2022.

This first feature film by Rob Jabbaz after four shorts, some of which were screened in festivals. We can say that the Canadian filmmaker chose to hit hard to make himself known, because The Sadness pushes the limits by pouring hectoliters of hemoglobin on the screen!

If it is not the most disturbing film of all time, it still offers real butchery! From its first quarter of an hour, the appearance of the disturbing character of the “grandmother” sets the tone: The Sadness will offer images that will remain engraved in the memory, for better or for worse (and especially for worse !).

Inspired by so-called “Category III” films, a classification reserved in Hong Kong for feature films considered particularly extreme and without taboos, The Sadness offers mutilations, bites, blows, stabbings, emasculation: the shocking images follow one another at a frantic pace!

Questioned by our colleagues from Parisian during the initial release of the film, Victor Lamoussière, responsible for the film’s distribution, confided:

“It’s a violent, brutal film, which pushes the cursor a little further than what we might be used to seeing. But we believe that its violence is not gratuitous. It contains comments on man, frustration… His violence is very graphic and some will find it enjoyable. In certain scenes, when blood spurts, it’s almost humorous!”

It is not difficult to see The Sadness as a metaphor, because the murderous madness of the film spreads like an epidemic and several scenes take place in a hospital or contaminated public transport… The parallel with a recent pandemic comes in head, and allows the film to have a tasty second reading.

It’s up to you, spectators, to form your opinion! The Sadness is currently available to OCS subscribers. For others, DVD-Blu-ray and VOD are also available.
