A child, barely 17 months old, fell out of the window in Fougères, Brittany. He was transported to hospital in serious condition.

In the morning of Saturday March 14, firefighters intervened in the town of Fougères in Ille-et-Vilaine. Baby just 17 months old fell from window of parents' apartment. Rescue workers were alerted at 11:30 a.m. and took charge of the child after his fall. The baby was found in serious condition and immediately transported to the Rennes South Hospital.

The authorities also went to the scene to make the first findings. The child is said to have fallen approximately eight meters high, and would have landed on the lawn. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of this fall. For the time being, it is the thesis of the accident which is privileged.

This accident is unfortunately not an isolated case in France. Last May, an infant fell from two floors in Sevran, in Seine-Saint-Denis. He died of his injuries in the hospital. A few months later, in October, a 4-year-old child would die falling from the 10th floor while his mother was absent at the time of the disaster.

Domestic accidents are responsible for nearly 20,000 deaths each year in our country. This is two to three times more than the number of road accident victims. Children and the elderly are the most affected. In France, defenestrations are particularly common. In 20% of cases, they cause death but can also lead to a serious handicap in 25% of falls.
