In Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer, a case of Covid-19 and an epidemic of resignations

Will the Covid-19 contracted in December 2021, without too much seriousness, by Jean-Luc Pithois, the mayor of Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer, prevent summer visitors from benefiting from brand new semi-automatic public toilets? new on their arrival in this charming village of Côtes-d’Armor? The strange question, in the form of a butterfly effect, ready to smile. But, on this peninsula not far from Saint-Malo, the town hall does not have the heart to laugh.

The city council imploded on January 10 with the resignation of four opposition members. A sling led by Bertrand Meheut, former boss of the Canal + Group (from 2003 to 2015), child of the country elected municipal councilor in the 2020 elections – like the three other resigners – from the minority list Saint-Jacut at the heart. In question, the attitude of the ecological mayor, accused of being “irresponsible” and “antivax”.

Jean-Luc Pithois and his assistants denounce ” an excuse ” and return them the compliment of“irresponsible”. Two majority advisers having already left the ship in February 2021 – the Covid-19 had nothing to do with it – partial elections will take place at the end of winter. In the memory of Jaguines and Jaguens, we had never seen that.

“The little drop that broke the camel’s back”

To understand this Breton Clochemerle, where the coronavirus has set fire to the powder, strolling through Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer is not enough. In mid-January, the streets are almost deserted and the restaurants closed. Wilfrid Serizay welcomes guests in the clean living room of his house, in the heart of a residential development. At 73, this retiree from the audiovisual sector presented himself, in 2020, on the Saint-Jacut au cœur list. “To serve the community” he said, he who was already helping out at the yacht club.

“The little drop that broke the camel’s back”, in his words, dates back to late fall. 1er December, Jean-Luc Pithois attends a meeting in Pléven, 20 kilometers from Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer. The next day, he is informed that one of the participants has Covid-19. The same day and the following days, the mayor carried out several self-tests, all of which were negative. On December 6 in the morning, he took part in a municipal meeting. Before feeling worse in the afternoon. Another self-test, this time positive.

It does not matter to Wilfrid Serizay that the mayor confined himself from December 6. Or that the town hall closed for a week – none of the 18 employees was infected, only the wife of Jean-Luc Pithois was. The former councilor accuses the city councilor of being “in perpetual dissimulation, in avoidance”. “What is inadmissible, is that he held this meeting without telling us that he was in contact, ” adds Jacques Perrigault, retired chartered accountant and resigning adviser, also present on December 6.
