JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett on Monday said his country will not be bound by any nuclear deal with Iran and will continue to see itself free to act “unconstrained” against Tehran if necessary .
A new round of negotiations opened at the end of December in Vienna intended to save the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian said on Friday that an agreement with Tehran was possible.
“Regarding the nuclear negotiations in Vienna, we are definitely concerned (…) Israel is not participating in the agreements,” Naftali Bennett told a parliamentary committee.
“Israel is not bound by what will be written in the agreements, if they are signed, and Israel will continue to maintain complete freedom of action anywhere and at any time, without any constraint,” he added. .
Israel called on the major world powers to maintain a credible military option against Iran.
Some experts wonder if the Hebrew state alone has the necessary military capabilities to prevent Iran from acquiring atomic weapons. Tehran has always denied having this intention.
