Rehtee Begum must be very old – you can tell from the woman from North India. However, when the vaccination team saw the woman’s grocery card, the helpers hardly believed their eyes: According to the information provided there, Begum is 124 years old!
That the woman is still alive is in itself a small miracle. Now she also wants to survive the corona virus and is therefore vaccinated against the pathogen.
Age not officially confirmed
India has been hit hard by the pandemic for weeks. The helper teams therefore also travel to remote places to give the people there the corona vaccinations.
On a tour to Wangoora in the north of the country, the helpers also meet Rehtee Begum. When asked how old she is, the old woman cannot answer exactly. However, she thinks she has reached at least 100 years, as reported by Indian media.
The helpers learn that the Indian is said to be 124 years old when they read through the information on the woman’s state grocery card.
So far the oldest woman in the world was 122 years old
However, since Begum has no other identification documents, their age cannot be fully proven. It is therefore questionable that she will be awarded the official title of the oldest woman in the world.
If the dates on the food menu are correct, Begum would be considered the oldest living woman in the world and would outbid 118-year-old Kane Tanaka from Japan.
The officially oldest woman who has ever lived was called Louise Calment. She died in 1997 at the age of 122 years and 164 days. (une)
