Last week, a surprising bug hit the famous multinational Amazon.
While the Lidl e-commerce site has just tumbled, Amazon accidentally displayed several products at ridiculous prices.
Many items displayed at 1 euro on Amazon
On June 28, the Amazon platform displayed a large number of products, usually offered at high prices, at the price of only one euro. Yes, you are not dreaming, it was indeed possible to find furniture, barbecues or even garden accessories there for the modest sum of one euro. Something to make people looking for good deals smile at the start of the summer period. On Twitter, the information was quickly relayed by Dealabsa site specializing in sharing tips.
If, at first glance, we could legitimately think of a scam, note that it was in fact a nasty mistake on the part of a third-party seller. The latter was indeed mistaken during the manual entry of prices. An error that could have had serious consequences if it had had more time to spread…
Orders immediately placed, immediately canceled
Located in the Netherlands, it is the company vidaXL which was at the origin of this error. If many Internet users had time to place an order, the latter were however quickly canceled by the seller (i.e. shortly after the publication of the good plan). As stipulated in article 1169 of the Civil Code, a trader has every right to put an end to the transaction if the price displayed is “illusory” or “ridiculous”. In this specific case, however, we do not know how many orders were cancelled.
For its part, Amazon sided with the company, recalling that it is the company that has the right to determine the outcome of the order in this case. As rightly pointed out Dealabs on Twitter, there is no point in being virulent towards Amazon’s customer service. In this kind of situation, it is better to be prepared for all types of eventualities. It is therefore preferable to consider from the start that it may be a bug or an error, which can avoid many disappointments in the event of cancellation of the order…
