There's nothing like home-baked bread! The basic recipe for Jamie Oliver bread uses just four ingredients – we'll tell you how to do it.

In his cooking format "Keep Cooking and Carry On", celebrity chef Jamie Oliver revealed a basic recipe for home-made bread that even beginners can make and that can be varied in many ways. And best of all: You only need four ingredients – and a little patience!

Jamie Oliver bread: Ingredients for two loaves of bread

  • 650 ml of lukewarm water
  • 1 P. dry yeast (7 g)
  • 1 kg flour (type 550)
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Preparation: step by step

  1. First pour the lukewarm water into a large bowl and stir and dissolve the yeast using a fork.
  2. Add most of the flour and salt to the yeast water and mix with a fork until it no longer works.
  3. Then you knead the dough with your hands into a ball and add more flour so that the bread dough no longer sticks to your hands.
  4. Next you have to knead the dough ball thoroughly for five minutes on a floured work surface. In the end, the dough should be supple and elastic.
  5. Shape the bread dough into a ball, place it in a bowl and dust it with a little flour. Then you cover the bowl with a clean, damp kitchen towel and let the dough rise for at least an hour – possibly longer – in a warm place without drafts.
  6. As soon as the dough has doubled in size, hit the ball of dough with your fist and knead it again for 30 seconds so that the air bubbles escape.
  7. Now you can divide the bread dough into two equal portions and either place it in a baking pan or on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Cover the bread and let the dough rest again for 30 to 60 minutes until it is twice its size.
  8. Preheat the oven to 180 ° C (gas mark 4) and bake the Jamie Oliver bread for about 35 minutes until golden brown. If you knock on the underside and you hear a hollow noise, the bread is ready, otherwise it has to stay in the oven a little longer.
  9. Finally, you knock the bread out of the mold and let it cool completely on a rack.

It's that easy to modify Jamie Oliver bread

If the basic recipe is too boring for you, you can vary the bread according to your taste. Jamie Oliver, for example, hits a hearty variant with pesto, olives and cheese before: For this you have to roll out the dough in a rectangular shape after step 6, brush with pesto and sprinkle with chopped olives and grated cheddar. Cover the bread with a cloth and let it rise again as described in step 7. Then you can bake it in the oven at 180 ° C.

As you can see, there are no limits to your creativity – so let's get down to baking!
