Lana Parrilla: “I recorded a song with Hélène Ségara”

After playing the evil queen of Once Upon a Time, the actress returns as a femme fatale of the 1940s in season 2 of Why Women Kill. On view from Thursday, January 6 on M6 at 9:05 p.m.

Why did you wait three years after the end of Once upon a time before playing again in a series?

LANA PARRILLA: I wanted to take a break. I had worked for seven years in a row and was going through a period of great personal change. I needed to recover (she divorced in 2018 after four years of marriage, editor’s note). In addition, no role had caught my attention.

From Rita in Why Women Kill or Regina in Once upon a time, which one is the most evil?

Oh, it’s Regina! The Evil Queen is much more evil. It’s even part of its name! (Laughs.) I can’t give away anything, but you’ll find out in Episode 8 where Rita came from in Why Women Kill. We will better understand his life and his choices …

How would you describe the female characters created by Marc Cherry, the creator of Why Women Kill and of Desperate Housewives?

They are insolent, intelligent, accomplices, daring women … They have such strength and tenacity. They are very complex. They are characters with multiple dimensions. It’s a lot of fun to play and to watch at the same time. But I’m not sure it would be fun to be their friend! (Laughs.)

We heard you sing in a musical episode of Once upon a time and you recorded a song during the lockdowns. When will an album be released?

I have already recorded a song for a character in a TV series that I am developing. It’s rap because this character loves this style. I discovered that I can rap! (Laughs.) I grew up in Brooklyn, I guess 90s rap, best in my opinion, influenced me. I also recorded a song with Hélène Ségara, but which has not yet been released.

How did it happen ?

She asked me to sing on her next album. It’s very exciting. It will be different from what you heard in Once Upon a Time, which sounded like a Broadway musical. I also did a dance song with Glovibes which works really well.
