Based in the commercial area of the city of Cary in North Carolina, this store, which is scheduled to open in April, will stand out from the others with its theme evoking the 80s. Although this is not its only business, it is true that retro-type independent games occupy a good place in the distributor’s catalog.
“We try to surf on the nostalgia of the days when physical commerce was the only option. Most game stores didn’t really have a distinctive look (and they still don’t). So we borrowed design elements from 90s video stores, department stores and some of the video game concept stores of the time.“, explains Josh Fairhurst, the boss of Limited Run Games, for whom this opening is the realization of a childhood dream.
Around 75% of the store will be devoted to games and merchandise from Limited Run, while the remaining 25% will be a mix of games, vinyl soundtracks, books, trading cards and merchandise from other publishers and distributors. Time travel will be facilitated by the presence of CRT TVs which will broadcast ten hours of old advertisements and content from promotional VHS.
As you can imagine, the eventual success of the operation could give some ideas. “We hope to one day have a presence on the West Coast, preferably in the San Francisco Bay Area, as there are surprisingly few game stores there. Beyond that, we really hope to expand internationally and have a physical presence in Europe and Japan.“, confesses Josh Fairhurst.
