Local eyesight – a quiet awakening from the lockdown in Upper Austria

The “Krone” used the first day after being blocked for four weeks for a local inspection in the largest shopping center in Upper Austria. Only the decorations and background music reminded of the hectic Christmas season.

“I’ve already bought most of the presents for Christmas online. I prefer to buy little things and clothes in brick-and-mortar stores, ”says Astrid (20) from Rohrbach, who strolled through the shopping center with her friend Lena (24) and full shopping bags. Obviously, many Upper Austrians have already done their Christmas shopping online, because at the “Krone” local inspection on Friday afternoon in PlusCity there was nothing more going on than on a normal day of shopping. Laura (24) from Steyr still has to buy the gifts: “I think it’s great that the shops have finally opened because I haven’t ordered anything online!” was surprisingly little controlled. There were security guards and a police patrol through the half-empty corridors, there were no obvious checks. Only in restaurants and at MediaMarkt was a valid 2G proof required before admission. In Linz city center, too, the controls were rather weak. Signs stating the mask and 2G obligation were found to be sufficient. But there was already a lot of activity there in the early afternoon. From the hectic Advent hustle and bustle from before Corona times, there was little to be seen here either. Opened for the first time Christiane Kaltenbach had great joy on the first day after the lockdown. During this difficult time, she dared to take the step into self-employment. “I actually wanted to open my barber shop in Linz on November 29th, but we had to postpone that. The joy in the whole team is all the greater to finally be able to work. Even if the entire Christmas business is no longer possible, ”says Kaltenbach, who now wants to quickly build up a customer base.
