Admittedly, we don’t have the magic formula for eternal love either. But if you’re paying attention to these five things, chances are your relationship won’t be a flash in the pan.

1. Travel together

A change of scenery is always good – especially when the relationship falls short in the stress of everyday life. It does not matter whether the destination is exotic or the accommodation is sophisticated. Much more important: You consciously take time for each other and experience each other outside of the daily routine. Whether crab pods on the North Sea, scrambling in the Swiss Alps or the conspiratorial escape to the sweet guesthouse in your own town – there are many ways to relax together.

2. Laugh together

Sounds banal, but it’s still true: a couple who laugh together strengthens their relationship. Because laughter makes you happy, say Gelotolog: inside – and they have to know, because they deal scientifically with the topic. Endorphins (happiness hormones) should be released when you laugh. Anyway: If you have a laugh flash with your loved one, you no longer need medical evidence to feel good afterwards.

3. Make an appointment

Admittedly, this point represents a certain challenge. But anyone who still pokes up for the partner (s) after years and takes time for appointments signals: You are not a matter of course for me, I will take care of you. Also great: Going to the restaurant together again, in which you hardly got a bite on the first date.

4. Aiming at a common goal

“Experience teaches us that love does not consist in looking at one another, but in looking together in the same direction.” Antoine de St. Exupéry said it, the wise man. Common goals often act like super glue for couples. Quitting smoking, plowing an allotment garden or expanding the attic – there is something to talk about and the couple experiences themselves as a team.

5. Hold hands

Our favourite! Take your hands. Maintain body contact. Nothing beats the warming hand of the person you would like to have near you. Show the world out there! Because let’s be honest: at the bottom of our hearts we all have the same romantic ideal of love: the older lady who has turned gray and her husband, who has also turned gray. How they sit together on a park bench. Holding hands.
