Major flaw: you will not be able to replay Dark Souls online before the release of Elden Ring

FromSoftware has spoken out regarding the return of online play in Dark Souls, disabled after the discovery of a dangerous bug. For now, priority is given to Elden Ring.

At the end of January, a major flaw was discovered in the PC versions of Dark Souls games. Capable of causing heavy damage to a computer or even a remote takeover, it pushed FromSoftware to deactivate the online mode of the various titles concerned — in this case: Dark Souls 3, Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls: Remastered. In a tweet posted on February 9, the studio gave news about a possible return of the features. We will have to wait.

In reality, the servers will not be reactivated until the launch ofElden Ring, as soon as possible. FromSoftware prefers to focus on the release of its highly anticipated future game first, so as not to delay it again (it was originally scheduled for January). This is rather good news.

FromSoftware wants to make sure there will be no worries for Elden Ring

After being made aware of the Dark Souls glitch, FromSoftware explains, “ having accentuated the investigations on Elden Ring (…) in order to be sure that the security measures are in place on all platforms. “An unforeseen event which, inevitably, has an impact on the rest of the tasks that the developers must fulfill (such as the reactivation of the Dark Souls servers). ” Due to the time required to design stable test environments, the Dark Souls saga online services on PC will not return until the release of Elden Ring confirms FromSoftware.

It is quite logical to see that the company is focusing on the future — Elden Ring — in the past tense — Dark Souls — however longtime fans might lament it. It would be very inappropriate for FromSoftware to market Elden Ring with a concern for security that may have a negative impact within the community. At the same time, fans wouldn’t like it to launch with fewer features, with co-op play being one of the promises. In an article published on February 1, VideoGamesChronicle mentioned real fears regarding Elden Ring and the existence of a hundred flaws in just Dark Souls III. The risk is therefore real.

FromSoftware obviously promises to do everything possible to reactivate the online mode of the Dark Souls trilogy as soon as possible. “ We will make an announcement as soon as our schedule is determined. “says the studio. A priori, it will not be necessary to count on it before the month of March. We remind you that you can still enjoy online modes on Dark Souls by playing elsewhere than on PC.
