The presence of the Russian private security company Wagner in Mali was until now only a rumor regularly denied. Thursday evening, a press release signed by France and fifteen Western powers engaged in the anti-jihadist fight in the Sahel denounced ” the deployment of mercenaries Ongoing in Mali. “ We, international partners determined to support Mali and its people in their efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability and to fight terrorism, strongly condemn the deployment of mercenaries on Malian territory ”.
