Marathon RUMOR: Bungie’s next game will be a reboot of the 1994 FPS, free-to-play and with PvE

Before becoming essential with the Halo and now destiny, Bungie had chained the most unknown projects. Among them, Marathon, Marathon 2: Durandal and Infinity Marathona trilogy of FPS solos released on Mac between 1994 and 1996 before being ported to Windows, Linux and others.

And while the license could have remained anchored in the past, Bungie obviously decided to dig it up to propose a reboot in the same universe. The company, now owned by playstationis preparing several new projects by 2025 and one of them would be Marathonbased on information from Tom Henderson ofInsider Gaming. The game would this time take the form ofa FPS cooperative with missions based on the extraction of a team of 3 playersto the Escape from Tarkov.

It would currently be in pre-alpha and would take us to a planet that was home to an ancient human colony, which now has to contend with the cyborgs called Runners that she had made to harvest resources. The basic objective would be to roam a map for loot with customizable equipment, also completing several missions, before fleeing. And if you die, say goodbye to your loot.

Bungie would like to do “the ultimate example of the game-service”with a progression system and seasonal rewards. Jeffrey Grubb also supports all of this via its sources, stating that the developers would like to make the experience smooth with low load times and queues, and deliver highly customizable heroes. The title would be normally free-to-play and could be the one the team was working on for NetEase before its takeover.

So, tempted by this hypothetical title in PvE ? In any case, we will have to wait for its confirmation to know what we should expect. Until then, Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is available from €23.99 per Fnac.
