Mark Zuckerberg explains what his white sun protection face was all about. The reason for this has nothing to do with UV radiation.

Mark Zuckerberg (36) spoke again on Wednesday in a live chat on Instagram about his photo, which went around the world almost a year ago. It shows Zuckerberg on a surfing trip in Hawaii – his face painted with a thick layer of white sunscreen. The photo went viral in July and has since turned into a meme – which is exactly what Zuckerberg wanted to prevent with the action.

In the conversation with Instagram boss Adam Mosseri (38) he explained: “I noticed that this paprazzi guy was following us and I didn’t want him to recognize me. So what do I do? I smack a ton of sunscreen on my face. ” However, the action backfired, admitted the 36-year-old. “I really should have thought this through,” he added. “That’s just too much sun protection. Nobody has to wear that much sun protection.”

Zuckerberg takes the jokes that are now being made about him, however, lightly: “If someone wants to publish a sunscreen meme, it’s cool. I’m happy to make the Internet laugh,” he said. “I laugh about it and think it’s pretty funny.”
