We’ll explain the correct order to you! We’ll also tell you which series from Disney + and Netflix belong to the MCU and how they are arranged in chronological order. Our overview already includes all films and series from Marvel Phase 4 and is therefore up to date.

  1. The Marvel order by year of release

    1. The Marvel One-Shots: An Optional Expansion

  2. Optional: The chronological order

  3. For those in a hurry: You can skip these films!

  4. Venom, Spider-Man and Co .: Marvel is not all MCU

  5. The Marvel series: are they worth it?

    2. The Netflix series, Agents of SHIELD and Co.

The Marvel order by year of release

All films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are particularly easy to catch up if you stick to the release order of the Marvel productions. After all, the stories were specifically told in the order in which they were first published. In the further course of the MCU in particular, more and more storylines were spanned across several films, so it is difficult as a career changer. So here you can find the official order of all previously released MCU films with which you have fun for around 50 hours will!

Phase 1

The table shows you the corresponding availability of the streams from German-speaking streaming providers. For this we check Disney +, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Sky, iTunes and Co.

While the Hulk was an important part of Marvel’s film world from the start, the previous way of dealing with the character is a bit out of line. Because while all the other Avengers of the first hour have already received several individual films, the Hulk has only appeared in the films of other heroes since “The Incredible Hulk”. This is because the character Hulk belongs to Marvel and is therefore allowed to appear in the “Avengers” or “Thor” films, the rights to all “Hulk” solo films are owned by Universal. “Planet Hulk”, an important Hulk story from the comics, was therefore simply processed into “Thor: Decision Day”.

Phase 2

While the films about Captain America all over the world have his name in their title, Germany is going a different way. The fear that the word “America” might repel German viewers, as it suggests patriotic self-adulation on the part of the Americans, is probably too great. In fact, the first Captain America film, back then under the title “Captain America: The First Avenger”, made significantly less money than “Thor” a few months earlier. In the following two productions, Captain America was then made into “The First Avenger” in the title, so that Avengers fans critical of the US could give the films a chance. In the films himself he is of course called Captain America in Germany, anything else would be a dubbing nightmare!

Phase 3

The films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are divided into individual phases. These could be understood as seasons of a series, at the end of which the big highlight always awaits you. Phase 1 includes the introduction of the individual Avengers and ends with their first adventure together. Phase 2 introduces new heroes with the Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, but otherwise mainly contains sequels for the old hero squad and another Avengers event. The third phase was particularly extensive and concentrated mainly on the fight against Thanos.

Phase 4: So it goes on

The movies from Marvel Phase 4 are so far “Black Widow”, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”, “Eternals” and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” started. But also the Disney + series “WandaVision”, “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier”, “Loki”, “What If …?” and “Hawkeye” belong to the fourth phase and their content is much more important than the Netflix series.

The MCU is of course far from exhausted. We are listing all of the upcoming Marvel series and movies that await you in phase 4 and beyond!

The Marvel One-Shots: An Optional Expansion

At the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Blu-Ray buyers were regularly presented with a very special extra. The so-called “Marvel One-Shots” were short films that played during the events of an MCU film or continued the plot. These were mostly humorous scenes with no significant significance for the Marvel cosmos, but we want to mention them anyway.

  • 1. The Advisor (Plays during “The Incredible Hulk”, received on the Blu-Ray from “Thor”)
  • 2. Something funny happened on the way to Thor’s Hammer (Plays during “Thor”, on the Blu-Ray of “Captain America: The First Avenger”)
  • 3. Object 47 (based on “Marvel’s The Avengers”, on the Blu-Ray of “Marvel’s The Avengers”)
  • 4. Agent Carter (based on “Captain America: The First Avenger”, on the DVD and Blu-Ray of “Iron Man 3”)
  • 5. The Mandarin (Plays after “Iron Man 3”, on the Blu-Ray of “Thor: The Dark Kingdom”)

Initially, it was planned to have smaller characters from Marvel’s comic book universe appear in the one-shots, which later, if the response is positive, could get their own films. This idea was quickly dropped and the production of the one-shots ended quickly.

It took too much effort to tell a short, yet convincing story without incurring excessive costs. However, the project was not completely put on hold, so theoretically the one-shots could return at any time. In a way, they did so with Team Thor, a mockumentary from Thor: Judgment Day director Taika Waititi that explains what Thor and Hulk did during the events of The First Avenger: Civil War have experienced.
