MediaTek is on the heels of Apple and strikes a blow with its Dimensity 9000

Some very nice people have been gathered on Geekbench 5: Snapdragon 888

, Dimensity 9000, Exynos 2200 and A15 Bionic. fight !

In recent weeks, MediaTek, Samsung and Qualcomm have presented their high-end SoCs which will equip some of the most anticipated smartphones of 2022. closely ahead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from the American Qualcomm and the Exynos 2200 from the Korean Samsung. But now that we know everything about the belligerents, we only expect one thing, to see them confront each other. First confrontation on Geekbench 5, both single-core and multi-core, with data compiled by Ice Universe.

The A15 at the top, the MediaTek chip in second place

Along with the three aforementioned chips, we also find Apple’s A15 Bionic and Qualcomm’s older Snapdragon 888 SoC. These two are each positioned at one of the two extremes in terms of performance (which in any case remain high level).

Unsurprisingly, the A15 wins both single-core and multi-core, with 1,750 and 4,885 points. But, in both cases, its dolphin is none other than the Dimensity 9000 from MediaTek: the SoC scores 1,278 points in single-core and 4,410 in multi-core.

On the third step of the podium is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 from Qualcomm, which achieves 1,231 points in single-core and 3,752 in multi-core. Besides, note that its lead over the Snapdragon 888 is very slight.

Finally, unfortunately for Samsung, its newly announced Exynos 2200 SoC is the last of the four “really new” SoCs, with 1,109 points in single-core and 3,534 in multi-core, values ​​almost similar to those of the Snapdragon 888. Let’s hope for the chip of Samsung that its Xclipse 920 GPU, under AMD RDNA 2 architecture, will allow it to catch up in other GPU-oriented benchmarks this time.

In passing, note that these SoCs Snapdragon, Dimensity and Exynos all have 8-core CPUs (and all adopt a 1-3-4 distribution). Apple’s A15 Bionic has 6 CPU cores in 2-4.

Indicative results, but other criteria should be taken into consideration

Well, take all of these results with some caution. To have an impartial opinion, it would be necessary to know the configurations of each smartphone or to study the consumption of the SoCs to gauge their energy efficiency, an essential criterion for chips intended for the mobile segment.

We bet that future tests of smartphones equipped with these different SoCs will make it possible to establish a hierarchy that is both more reliable and more exhaustive.
