US actress Melissa McCarthy and basketball superstar Shaquille O’Neal lend their voices to voice assistant Alexa.

Tired of being reminded of appointments or being told jokes by the voice of Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa? At least US users will now get the voices of two new stars on their ears instead – if they want.

who according to a report by the industry magazine “Variety” is willing to pay just under five US dollars each, the votes of Hollywood star Melissa McCarthy (50), mainly known for comedic roles such as “Spy – Susan Cooper Undercover” or “Tammy – Voll wegfahren”, and basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal, 49.

McCarthy hopes “everyone likes my dad jokes”

Both are apparently convinced that this offers significant added value for users. “I think the fans will love it. They will see a unique side of me,” Shaq told the magazine. Spread over three months, the ex-athlete needed around 60 hours, according to Amazon, to teach Alexa how to speak.

McCarthy had a lot of fun working on the project, as she explains in a statement: “I hope you all enjoy my Dad Jokes!” On YouTube are sample clips the two stars to be heard in her roles as Alexa voice. For some time now, US users have also been able to access the voice of Samuel L. Jackson (72). It is currently not known whether similar projects or an implementation are also planned for Germany.
