Michael Degen is about to turn 90. In one of his interviews, which has become rare, he revealed how he thinks about aging.

The German-Israeli actor Michael Degen celebrates his 90th birthday on Monday, January 31, 2021. The native of Chemnitz has more or less withdrawn from the public for some time. For his anniversary, Degen gave one of his rare interviews in the “Bild am Sonntag”. Aging is no fun, says Degen openly when asked about his special day. He has not yet been able to discover any advantage in it.

“But the alternative seems a lot less tempting to me,” Degen continued. He “certainly made some mistakes in these nine decades,” explains the former “Dies Drombuschs” star. He regrets some things without wanting to go into detail. He also does not give young people any advice because he has made too many mistakes himself. But he can say one thing: “Treating others the way you would like to be treated yourself is certainly a good basis.”

Michael Degen: “I’m afraid for the young Jews in Europe”

He’s not afraid of open, anti-Semitic threats: “I survived Hitler and I’m a very old man now. I won’t be able to do anything anymore. But I’m afraid for the young Jews in Europe.” A large part of his family was massacred by the Nazis: “They died in concentration camps and suffocated in gas chambers.” His father was also badly mistreated in Sachsenhausen concentration camp and died in “excruciating pain” a few weeks after his release in April 1940.
