Michelle Obama "couldn't be more proud" of Amanda Gorman. The former first lady remembers on Instagram.

The young poet Amanda Gorman (22) was the secret star of the inauguration of US President Joe Biden (78). Former First Lady Michelle Obama (57, "Becoming: My Story") is one of her fans – but not just since January 20th. In an Instagram post, she recalls her first two meetings with Gorman.

Obama was "deeply moved"

"Like the rest of the country, I was so moved to watch Amanda Gorman read her poem 'The Hill We Climb'," said Obama. In addition to Gorman's words, the presence and self-confidence would have blown her. "I have to say that I was proud too," continues Obama.

You yourself met the now 22-year-old for the first time in 2016 in the White House. In 2018, the two met again. "Over the years I've watched her continue to inspire people with her words," explains Obama. "I couldn't be more proud of the young woman she has become."

Michelle Obama also shared three photos of her meeting with Amanda Gorman on the social network. The latest picture shows her together with her husband Barack Obama (59), the young poet and her mother Joan Wicks at Joe Biden's inauguration. In the latest issue of Time, Gorman is also interviewed by Michelle Obama. The young poet can also be seen on the cover of the news magazine.
