Microsoft: About the company teams to chat with private contacts

In the future, Microsoft Teams Users will also be able to start conversations with external contacts who do not have an account with their own organization. This was already possible with members of other institutions and companies, now it is also possible with private accounts – as long as the admins allow it.

SMEs in particular would often use teams without a company license and only via personal accounts, Microsoft writes in the blog post accompanying the announcement. The invitation to exchange ideas with external people in teams is possible by opening a new chat. In the future, you can enter the e-mail addresses or telephone numbers of external business contacts in the address line and then invite them to a conversation. Group chats are then also possible.

Ultimately, however, it is up to the admins to decide whether and how their own company will make the new feature available: they can determine whether they can accept third-party invitations and make chat invitations. Teams users have been able to start conversations with members of other companies via Microsoft Teams Connect since last year, but only with organizational accounts. The roll-out of the new function will start immediately.
