Mission for mountain rescuers – blowing snow surprised two mountaineers

Two German women (both 20) wanted to climb the 2,680 meter high Moosermandl in Lungau on Sunday. But at the top they were surprised by heavy snowfall. A rescue helicopter was deployed.

The women had reached the summit by midday, when winter conditions were already prevailing. However, the two mountaineers were not equipped for these conditions. While descending 50 meters below the summit, they had to give up and make an emergency call. According to the police, the already severely hypothermic women were then accompanied by mountain rescuers and alpine police officers in a complex rescue operation until the rescue helicopter could fly them safely into the valley.
