An exceptional guest on the “Europe 1 Sport” program (every evening from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.), Caroline Garcia opened up about her ambitions for the 2023 season. Crowned at the WTA Masters in Texas, the tennis player is now aiming a Grand Slam victory, and why not the place of world number 1.
Caroline Garcia is on a little cloud. With an exceptional second half of the 2022 season, the Frenchwoman is currently in 4th place in the WTA rankings and is aiming even higher. Guest of the show Europe 1 Sportsthe tennis player now dreams of a Grand Slam, a goal she could achieve in January 2023, during the Australian Open (January 16 to January 29, 2023).
“It becomes more concrete”
“The goal of my whole career is to win a Grand Slam and with the latest results at the US Open and this victory in Masters it becomes more concrete”, reacted the sportswoman at the microphone of Jacques Vendroux in Europe 1 Sports. And for good reason, the French player had an incredible end to the season. Since mid-June, Caroline Garcia has been transfigured: 36 wins for nine losses, including eight wins against Top 10 players.
“My style of play poses problems, I am able to beat the best (players) in a short time,” said the Frenchwoman in Europe 1 Sports. A confidence that she hopes to continue in 2023.
Paris 2024, “an unexpected chance”
But for Caroline Garcia, the apotheosis would be the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. “For an athlete, being able to play the Games in her country is an unexpected opportunity. Playing in Paris, at Roland-Garros, in a historic stadium, I have no words to express this chance that we are going to have”, recounted the winner of the last WTA Masters, which took place in Texas.
But before glimpsing any Olympic title, the Frenchwoman intends to climb the ladder gradually and make 2023 “a season full of titles”.
