Mylène Farmer: “A strangeness…”, the rare confidences of Laurent Boutonnat

In a rare public speech, Laurent Boutonnat gave himself up like never before to his former companion, the singer Mylène Farmer. According to the composer, the latter has always had a personality… very strange.

When Laurent Boutonnat decides to speak, everyone listens attentively. And for good reason : the famous composer had not spoken to the media since… the year 2007. His last interview therefore dates back to fifteen years ago, to mark the release of his film Jacquou Le Croquant. But the newspaper Le Parisien managed to bring him out of the silence by giving him a long interview on the occasion of Mylène Farmer’s new album, the 12th, entitled The influence. It was out of the question for Laurent Boutonnat not to talk about this event. And the least that can be said is that the composer gave himself up to the media game, without waffle, giving himself up like never before.

Historical composer of Mylène Farmer, Laurent Boutonnat also shared fifteen long years of love life with the singer. Suffice to say that he knows the sulfurous redhead better than anyone. To be completely frank with the journalist from Le Parisien, Laurent Boutonnat began his interview with the story of his very first meeting with Mylène Farmer. This took place in 1984. “One day, Jérôme Dahan told me about Mylène, whom he knew. At the time, she was taking photos, she was a bit of an actress, she was doing theater, pubs, Jérôme was a bit in love with her. And he had him come to his house to take a test, on the piano“. That’s where it all began.

Laurent Boutonnat: “Mylène Farmer had a strangeness in her”

“Mylène was charming, but she spoke very very little, she had a strangeness, she was quite striking in her silences… She almost conformed to the image of Mum is Wrong. And finally we recorded with her”, confides Laurent Boutonnat. This was followed by the composition of a hundred songs as their collaboration progressed, including the eternal hits Libertine, Sans contrefaçon or Désenchantée.

They also worked together on the film Giorgino, which ended in terrible failure. “It was hard. Whatever the quality of a film, it is considered by people as a failure. I took big risks on this film, I financed it at more than 60%. But over time, it teaches you a lot of things, it makes you stronger. And then we bounce back. All that is not very serious, finally “, he commented. The two lovebirds have experienced ups and downs for many years, whether in their romantic or professional life.
