Swiss Solidarity, in cooperation with SRG, is organizing a national day of solidarity for the Ukrainian population on Wednesday, March 9, 2022.

For several days, Ukraine has been suffering from repeated attacks by the Russian army. Hundreds of thousands of refugees – mostly children, women and the elderly – have fled their country and are seeking safety in neighboring Poland, Moldova, Slovakia, Romania and Hungary. In partnership with SRG, Swiss Solidarity is calling for donations on the national day of solidarity on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, via TV and radio channels as well as online from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. SRF reports all day long on radio, TV and online about the Solidarity Day.

Radio SRF 3 live on Bundesplatz

SRF 3 leaves the studio in Zurich on Wednesday, March 9th and broadcasts live all day from Bundesplatz in Bern. Kathrin Hönegger, Anic Lautenschlager and Tom Gisler will moderate on site from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and, together with Swiss Solidarity, will accept donations for the benefit of the Ukrainian refugees.

Well-known Swiss musicians support the campaign. In an interview and with a short live session on site, the following will be present:

Radio SRF 1 reports from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. from the donation center in Zurich and talks to Federal President Ignazio Cassis about the conflict in Ukraine, among others.

There are also live links to various aid organizations that work non-stop for the refugees in Ukraine, Poland, Moldova and Hungary. The many Ukrainians who are very worried about their families and friends here in Switzerland also have their say.

TV special with Fabienne Bamert and Mario Grossniklaus

Under the title “Switzerland helps”, Mario Grossniklaus and Fabienne Bamert will present a special TV show live from Bundesplatz in Bern in the evening (8:05 p.m., SRF 1) and talk to various people on site. In addition, contributions to relief campaigns from Switzerland are shown and there are also live links to the relief organizations. In between, at 8:35 p.m., the “Rundschau” reports on current events in Ukraine.

Swiss Solidarity collection campaign for Ukraine

Since the start of the collection campaign, Swiss Solidarity has already received over 25 million Swiss francs in donations. The foundation would like to convert this wave of solidarity in the population into effective and meaningful help. Swiss Solidarity is in constant contact with its Swiss partner organizations on site, which organize needs-based help. In order to ensure professional and targeted humanitarian aid, Swiss Solidarity also sends two of its project managers to the Polish border.
