Netflix brings you the psychodrama “Woman in the Dark” today. In it, a professor vacations in Greece and is reminded of her painful past.

Netflix is expanding its programming again in December 2021 and January 2022. Today the film drama goes “Woman in the Dark” marks Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut and stars The Crown star Olivia Colman.
In the film, Leda Caruso (Olivia Colman), a professor of Italian literature, travels to the Greek island of Spetses for the summer. She has rented a holiday apartment there and enjoys the peace and quiet of the almost empty complex. She flirts with student Will (Paul Mescal), who works at the beach bar, and also with caretaker Lyle (“Westworld” actor Ed Harris), who runs the vacation rentals.
When a noisy extended family from New York arrives on the island, Leda’s idyll is disturbed. The young mother Nina (“Fifty Shades” star Dakota Johnson) is on the beach with her daughter every day and gives the impression of being completely overwhelmed with the child. When the girl runs away, Leda brings her back to Nina. The incident triggers memories of herself as a young mother (“Judy” star Jessie Buckley) that Leda would like to forget.
