New position – Salzburg State Theater gets in-house composer

The Salzburg State Theater has created a position that is unusual in German-speaking countries: from February 1, the theater will have its own house composer, namely the 1987-born composer and conductor Katrin Schweiger, as the State Theater announced on Tuesday. At the same time she takes over the musical direction of plays and musicals. On the one hand, Schweiger should compose his own works for the house and, on the other hand, take on the musical accompaniment for existing productions.

Katrin Schweiger completed her composition studies “Film Music & Sound Design” at the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg. Since 2011 she has been working as a freelance composer, conductor, singer and music teacher in Munich and since 2012 has also been a regular guest lecturer at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy. In 2016 she completed the Hollywood master class “Arranging for Strings and Bigband in Popmusic” with Chris Walden. Her catalog raisonné includes around 50 compositions and several orchestrations and ranges from film, theater and contemporary concert music to popular rock and pop music and jazz.
