New sponsor for F1 racing team: does Schumacher benefit from the Haas million deal?

New sponsor for F1 racing team
Does Schumacher benefit from the Haas million deal?

Even before the fourth last race of the season, Mick Schumacher has not yet received a contract for the new Formula 1 season. After all, his Haas racing team now has enough money for further cooperation: A new title sponsor was landed before the US GP.

Mick Schumacher’s future at the Haas racing team is still unclear, but after difficult years the team finally has planning security. The payment service provider MoneyGram will be the title sponsor from the coming season, the Americans confirmed the million dollar deal before the US Grand Prix (Sunday, 9 p.m. CET/Sky).

For the first time, the cooperation should give the team, which has been chronically financially weak, the opportunity to fully exploit the Formula 1 budget. So far, Haas has been well below the most recently allowed $ 150 million, but now the team can act on par with the big players like Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari, at least in terms of budget. Together they want to maximize the results “on and off the track,” according to the press release.

Schumacher future still unclear

Haas has been in Formula 1 since 2016 and is currently the only team from the United States, a market where the premier class is currently experiencing the greatest growth. Team owner is entrepreneur Gene Haas, who was previously known in the States for his involvement in the NASCAR series. In Formula 1, however, Haas has so far not progressed beyond the midfield and sometimes even slipped to the end of the field.

That had a lot to do with unsuccessful sponsorship deals: The collaboration with an energy drink manufacturer and a Russian chemical company close to Vladimir Putin ended prematurely. Success should now be possible with the new financier – it is still unclear whether Mick Schumacher will still benefit from it. Even before the fourth-to-last race of the season, the 23-year-old has not yet received a contract for 2023. At the US Grand Prix, Schumacher is again under pressure to perform. Nico Hülkenberg (35) is an alternative for the son of the record world champion.
