Highway 129 is considered to be one of the most dangerous in the United States. A video shows how impressively a Tesla Model 3 takes the 318 bends on “autopilot” and without driver intervention.
- YouTuber CGP Gray tried the new FSD beta software with a Tesla Model 3.
- He chose the extremely winding “Tail of the dragon” as a test track.
- The software masters the total of 318 corners, some of which are very tight, with flying colors – without any intervention by the driver.
Tesla’s full self-driving feature, commonly known as “autopilot”, is often the subject of criticism. Most recently, 19 former Tesla employees reported discrepancies in the New York Times. There was a fatal accident with a Tesla Model 3 in Paris, the cause of which has not yet been clarified.
But the autonomous capabilities of electric cars from California often astonish people. Like YouTuber CGP Gray, who borrowed his father’s Tesla Model 3 for a very special ride. His goal: the tail of the dragon. The 15-kilometer route is tough. The road with its 318 tight curves is one of the most dangerous in the USA. Motorcyclists in particular often have accidents on it.
The electric car took the entire route without the driver having to intervene. You can see the fluid movements in the video – the driving style is practically indistinguishable from that of a human. The one or the other time, however, the Model 3 drives over the marking, noticeably often when turning left.
The software used in YouTuber’s Model 3 is in beta status and cannot be installed by all Tesla customers. Andrej Karpathy, responsible for applications related to artificial intelligence at Tesla, celebrates the YouTuber’s video on Twitter and is visibly proud of the latest advances in the field of autonomous driving.
