Nino de Angelo: He suffers from the incurable lung disease COPD

Pop singer Nino de Angelo claims that he suffers from an incurable lung disease. He only had five years to live.

The pop star Nino de Angelo (56, "Beyond Eden") says he doesn't have to live too long anymore. In an interview with the "Bild" newspaper, the musician tells that he suffers from the incurable lung disease COPD. "I have maybe five years left – otherwise I would be a medical miracle," says de Angelo. Since the diagnosis around four years ago, he has "never been to the doctor": "I don't even want to know what stage I am at."

Nevertheless, he does not want to adapt his lifestyle to his situation: "I fought a tough fight against myself for almost 40 years. Genius and madness were often together." If he suddenly stopped smoking and drinking, his body system would likely collapse completely. He knows that he is a daunting example for many, but he is not afraid of death: "I've met him so often that he's like a brother to me."

Transplantation is out of the question for Nino de Angelo

For COPD, he does not take pills, "red wine and whiskey" are also good medicine, so de Angelo. He also has a good psyche with which to fight COPD. So far, he has only noticed how weak his lungs are when climbing stairs: "But as long as I can sing, everything is fine."

Incidentally, a new lung is out of the question for him. "I will never undergo a lung transplant, nor will I ever voluntarily go to a clinic again," says the singer. For that he had seen the inside of hospitals for too long and too often in his life.
