Youtube continues in its desire to develop commercial revenues linked to advertisements. And this could involve broadcasting advertisements on paused videos in the future.

For a number of months, YouTube has been working hard to finally remove all the little tricks that allowed you to bypass advertisements on its platform, which many find too numerous. It was first ad blockers on web browsers that were targeted by the streaming giant, then, more recently, smartphone applications that allowed you to watch videos without ads. And after this sentence of repression, the next objective of the American company seems to put even more advertising on its platform!

Video paused, but not ads

Did you find that the number of advertisements on YouTube had a rather painful tendency to increase over the years? So, you haven’t seen anything yet! During the last presentation of the results of Alphabet, the parent company of YouTube, the head of commercial activities at Google and YouTube Philipp Schindler communicated on tests carried out by the firm in connection with the introduction of advertisements when a video was posted on break.

And it’s a success, if his enthusiasm is anything to go by. “ In Q1, we saw strong traction when we introduced Trial Ad Break on Connected TVs, a new non-interruptive ad format that appears when users pause their organic content » he commented. This new type of advertising is responsible for very positive results for the brand ” And ” advertisers give it high prices. »

Smart TVs first?

Suffice to say that it is highly possible to see these advertisements appear soon. Philipp Schindler having mentioned smart TVs, these devices should be the first to “benefit” from the deployment.

A decision which would have its logic, the mode of video consumption was not the same on smartphone or PC as on a television, where we can pause a video like stopping a film, in order to perform a task that can take several minutes.

But it doesn’t mean that YouTube won’t then decide to generalize this model across applications. And with an audience which already decries the important place taken by the latter, we should perhaps expect some controversies.
