In recent days, parents have been denouncing the lack of AESH accompanying persons for children with disabilities who have returned to school.

It’s a complicated start to school for many autistic children. Since the resumption of school, many parents share their concern about the lack of Supporters for Students with Disabilities (AESH) in the classes. Many students who should benefit from this help find themselves left on their own.

Interviewed on BFMTV, the parents of little Swann, 5 years old, explained the problem that their daughter and many other students meet. “Swann really needs someone to always be there to bring her back to reality because otherwise she puts herself in her world a bit. She makes up a lot of characters for herself, and then she has major sensory disturbances so she can’t stand noise and light. Suddenly she is in the classroom and learning does not take place ”, they inform. Last year already, the girl had had an AESH companion only three-quarters of the time. “It has become very complicated for her to go to school”, laments his mother.

Only 125,000 AESH for 400,000 children

Like Swann, 400,000 children with disabilities have returned to school. To help them, 125,000 AESH are distributed throughout France. An insufficient number which does not allow each student to be accompanied on a full-time basis. The website of the Ministry of National Education has made available on his website, all the necessary information for people who would like to become AESH. While waiting to recruit someone full-time, the school of little Swann found him a companion available three-quarters of the time.
