Four sick Swiss runners have to do without a start in the first European Championship race on Thursday.
As reported by Swiss Orienteering, seven-time European champion Matthias Kyburz, five-time European Championship gold winner Daniel Hubmann, Jonas Soldini and three-time relay European champion Elena Roos cannot compete in the long-distance race in Rakvere, Estonia, on Thursday for health reasons. The association did not give any details about the illness.
Instead of Hubmann and Roos, Fabian Aebersold and Marion Aebi will start. No substitute runner can be nominated for Kyburz, who has a personal starting place. Soldini will not be replaced either. A total of 8 Swiss men and 7 Swiss men will start on Thursday.
Fit until the weekend?
In the case of Kyburz and Roos, the association hopes that they will be fit again by the weekend’s races (middle distance and relay). No information was given on the perspectives of Hubmann and Soldini.
