“Olaf” from Obernberg – Innviertel teddy bear sent a selfie from space

He didn’t jump, but he brought cool pictures with him to earth: “Olaf”, the mascot of the MS Obernberg am Inn. Twelve students from Innviertel had brought the teddy bear with a helium balloon – like Felix Baumgartner once did, only with less tam-tam – into the stratosphere and thus into space. A first!

“The 14-year-olds at Obernberg Middle School are the youngest group of students in Austria who have ever managed a stratosphere flight to this height,” says a delighted teacher Hannes Eichsteininger in an interview with the “Krone”. Now, 20 days after the excursion to the edge of space at an altitude of 38,000 meters, the images could be evaluated.

After the turbulent landing of the balloon with “Olaf” and a lot of technology on board on a tree 300 kilometers from the starting point, it was unclear whether there would be any pictures at all.

Now they are there and also a video with “Olaf” as “Austronaut”.
