On the open road – Vienna: four passers-by randomly attacked with a knife

Apparently completely indiscriminately, four people were attacked by a man with a knife on Tuesday afternoon in the Vienna district of Brigittenau. The perpetrator is said to be a mentally ill Viennese.

At around 2 p.m., the 35-year-old Viennese entered a snack bar on Klosterneuburger Strasse and grabbed a knife. The people present then fled the restaurant immediately.

Victim injured by blows and cuts
The 35-year-old then also left the restaurant and apparently attacked four passers-by with a knife in Klosterneuburger Strasse and Othmargasse. The victims, two women and two men between the ages of 48 and 64, were all injured by blows and cuts. None of the victims is in mortal danger.

Witnesses were able to keep the attacker at bay on the corner of Othmargasse and Hannovergasse until the police arrived and arrested the 35-year-old. The four injured were taken to hospital after first aid.

The police consider a political or religious motive to be unlikely at this point in time.

The Viennese police asked witnesses who made any video or photo material of the attacks not to publish them on social networks for reasons of piety and victim protection. The material for the investigation is requested under the e-mail: [email protected] to provide.
