On the way in Tennengau – In Hallein it’s: kindergarten instead of a sports field

The waiting list is long, parents of almost 90 children are desperately looking for a place in a kindergarten. A project worth millions should finally defuse the situation.

The soccer players once ran after the round leather here. In the future, more than 100 children will play on the site of the former HSK sports field. Construction work on a new kindergarten in Hallein has been going on for a few weeks. The need is huge. “A good 90 children are currently on the waiting list for a kindergarten place,” says Mayor Alexander Stangassinger (SPÖ). The new kindergarten on Wiestal Landesstrasse will have four groups of small children and six groups of kindergarten children. It has a usable area of almost 1800 square meters. The L-shape of the building is designed to provide the best possible protection against street noise. The building will have a spruce facade. A real eye-catcher: A tree will be planted in front of the kindergarten – this will protrude through the terrace to the first floor. The treetop is directly visible for the children. “This is definitely the biggest and most important project of my term of office,” says Stangassinger. If the construction work goes according to plan, operations will start at the beginning of 2024. All the children and teachers of the children’s villa in the old town will move into the new building. “And hopefully the waiting list will finally be history,” says the city manager. The recycling center and the Celts will have to wait for the time being. Salzburg’s second largest city will spend 7.3 million euros on the new building. A mammoth project in times of massive inflation. The municipality has to postpone other construction projects for the time being. The plans for the resource park in the Gamp district (costs: almost 3.5 million euros) are on hold for the time being, as is the attic expansion of the Celtic Museum (1.8 million euros).
