Several German TV stations will broadcast Prince Philip’s funeral on television on Saturday. Fans can also be there live via stream.

Prince Philip (1921-2021) died on April 9 at the age of 99 at Windsor Castle. The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II’s husband (94) will take place on April 17th. Several German TV stations will also report live on Saturday afternoon. Here is an overview of the planned programs.

Live reporting, switching, documentaries

The first shows a “Brisant extra” from 16:15 on the funeral of Prince Philip. The magazine is hosted by the moderator Mareile Höppner (43), who will guide the show together with the nobility expert Leontine Countess von Schmettow. In addition to live reporting from Windsor Castle, there are plans to switch to local correspondents and talk to Eduard Prinz von Anhalt (79). On the other hand, the ZDF will broadcast a “ZDF special” with the title “Farewell to Prince Philip: The funeral service for the Duke of Edinburgh” live from Mainz and London from 3:10 pm. On April 18, the station will also show the documentary “ZDF-History: Prince Consort – On Her Majesty’s Order” from 11:45 p.m. Viewers find the stream also in the ZDF media library or in the app.

Meanwhile, RTL begins on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. with a supporting program around the funeral of Prince Philip. First, the report “William – Prince of Hearts, King of the Future” is shown, followed by the documentary “Queen Elizabeth – A Family History” at 13:00. From 2:00 p.m., RTL will broadcast an “Exclusiv Spezial” under the motto “Goodbye, Prince Philip!” with moderator Frauke Ludowig (57), nobility expert Michael Begasse (55) and Guido Maria Kretschmer (55), who will classify the events. In addition to switching to correspondents in London and Windsor, excerpts from the documentary “Prince Philip – An Extraordinary Life” will also be shown.

From 2:05 pm, n-tv will also be showing “Queen Elizabeth – A Family History”. The news channel will accompany the funeral service from 3:25 p.m. The ceremony is on the RTL homepages and n-tv also in the live stream retrievable, as well as via the news broadcaster’s app and the TVNow app. With the streaming service RTL can also see the documentaries again.

Other channels

Sat.1 will show a “Farewell to Prince Philip – SAT.1 Special” live on Saturday from 2:30 pm Celebrity expert Vanessa Blumhagen (43) and presenter Daniel Boschmann (40) will lead through the broadcast, which is expected to last three and a half hours. Welt will start reporting on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. The news channel shows the memorial service moderated by Tatjana Ohm (51) and Alexander Siemon (53) in the studio in Berlin.
