The operator Orange launched its new, more modern TV 6 decoder on Thursday, which integrates Wi-Fi 6 and the main streaming applications.

Five and a half years after the launch of its latest TV decoder, and a few months after the new Livebox 7, Orange announced, Thursday April 11, 2024, the marketing of a new model, which better corresponds to current uses. The historic operator presents a device modestly called “TV Decoder 6”, aptly named since it integrates Wi-Fi 6 technology. Be careful, however, not all Orange Livebox customers can benefit from it. Clubic explains everything to you.

Orange finally equips its TV decoder with Wi-Fi 6

Orange has therefore launched the TV Decoder 6, which both complements and succeeds the UHD 4K TV Decoder. Here, the device recovers certain advantages of the previous generation, such as the ultra high definition 4K HDR image, Dolby Atmos sound, and live control, which allows you to pause a program currently being broadcast.

Concerning the new features, let us immediately mention the arrival of Wi-Fi 6, when the previous device, released at the end of 2019, was only equipped with Wi-Fi 5. We recall that with compatible devices, Wi-Fi Fi 6 speeds up data transfer and reduces latency, for smoother use of video services or a better gaming experience.

With a new processor and greater memory capacity (you can record up to 300 hours of series, films and other programs), the Orange TV Decoder 6 also accommodates the latest versions of streaming applications such as Netflix and Prime Video. (which now offers an offer with advertising), Disney+ and Paramount+, in addition to the 300 channels of Orange TV. The new decoder integrates Alexa and can be controlled by voice in hands-free mode, ideal for searching for a program to watch from the operator’s TV tool.

A decoder reserved for Orange’s high-end fiber offer

Orange, which prides itself on an eco-design approach certified by Bureau Veritas, explains having reduced the carbon impact of the decoder by 41%, compared to the previous model. The shells are, for example, made of 100% recycled and recyclable plastic and are removable, for better repairability.

Regarding electricity consumption, this would plummet by an average of 70%. Orange justifies this data by greater sobriety when the decoder is turned on, thanks to its energy saving mode which is also activated by default. Finally, let us note the operator’s efforts on the packaging, made from recycled packaging cardboard, with the use of vegetable ink.

Designed to accompany the Livebox 7 both technologically and in terms of design, the TV Decoder 6 is only accessible with the operator’s high-end offer, namely Livebox Max Fiber (or its variation ADSL). It is now the only TV Player offered with this subscription. The Livebox Max Fiber offer is, remember, sold at 39.99 euros/month for 6 months, then at 57.99 euros.
