He hasn’t finished surprising us — far from it. Sculptor specializing in League of Legends, to whom we owe in particular a beautiful Elder Drake as well as’a breathtaking Maokai, Meomon is not his first shot. And yet it is clear that each of his new creations steals our minds, fascinating us for a few minutes that frankly pass at lightning speed.
This time, the Korean sculptor has decided to tackle a founding element of the mythology of Runeterra, the clashes between Volibear and Ornn. And, after 41 days of work, the result is just breathtaking.
A fratricidal duel at the top of Runeterra
In League of Legends mythology, Volibear and Ornn are two brothers belonging to a family of demigods who shaped the Freljord. Incidentally, not surprisingly, the armor worn by Runeterra’s most famous bear was forged by Orn. That said, although they share the same blood, the two brothers are far from possessing the same personality. Thirsty for blood and battle, Volibear revels in the carnage he commits, while the blacksmith god adopts a more peaceful posture.
When the humans began to take over the Freljord, the demigods who had ruled the region stood stunned, unable to find a truly collective solution. Therefore, regarding them as pathetic creatures, Volibear appealed to the Ursidae to restore the supremacy of the demigods. He asked Ornn to forge the weapons and armor of his followers, but the latter refused, thus triggering the ire of his brother as well asa terrible clash between the deities, who lined up in faction. And “lhe resulting cataclysm was nothing but fire and ashes, a rain of lightning so violent that it was visible to the ends of the earth.” (Source: History ofOrnn)
It is this confrontation at the top of which, in the end, we know very little that Meomon has tried to transcribe, and it is clear that he has accomplished a real masterpiece there.
