Pcresse is alarmed about the future of public transport finances

The president of Ile-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) Valérie Pécresse was once again alarmed on Wednesday for the future of the finances of the regional transport authority, after having completed its 2023 budget in pain, at the cost of a 12% increase in the monthly subscription.

We are faced with an absence of a lasting solution, Ms. Pcresse regretted in front of journalists, on leaving the board of directors of IDFM. At this stage, we have not received a satisfactory response to our requests for funding, she added.

The institution she presides must finance from next year the operation of new infrastructures, such as the extension of the RER E and the Grand Paris metro, i.e. more than 1.5 billion euros in new expenditure per year. 2030, she explained.

However, IDFM needs the approval of the government to raise the rate of the mobility payment (a tax on the payroll of companies with more than 11 people), which the executive refuses. And he remains deaf to his requests, while the former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe had promised at the beginning of 2020 to think about additional sources of financing for the new lines, explained the elected (LR), who claims a form of autonomy tax.

IDFM’s finances are totally sound, but the cost of new lines is not funded, she insisted.

Valrie Pcresse announced the holding on January 23 of the Assises on the financing of transport in the Ile-de-France region, which will bring together all the players, including the state, and the population.

I want us to put everything on the table (…) so that we can see who is financing what, she added, noting that the real cost of the Navigo monthly subscription was 240 euros per month.

This one, whose price had remained unchanged since August 2017, will drop on January 1, 2023 from 75.20 to 84.10 euros, according to the deliberation voted on Wednesday by IDFM.

We have seen the worst-case scenario for 2023, estimated Ms. Pcresse, aid of 200 million euros from the state having made it possible to avoid a greater increase.

Faced with this unprecedented increase in the Navigo past, there is an even more acute expectation from travelers (in terms of) quality of transport, she noted, judging the problems encountered on the RATP network in recent months unacceptable.

In addition to the monthly Navigo which will cost 84.10 euros in 2023 (+11.8%), the single ticket will cost 2.10 euros (+10.5%), the ticket sold on the buses 2.50 euros (+25%) and the fixed price for the week 30euros (+31.6%).
