Here is a project that no one expected. Remember, in 2015 Shigeru Miyamoto corroborated the existence of Pikmin 4, saying the project was “very close to being completed”. Seven years later, Miyamoto himself came to speak during the Nintendo Direct to give some news and confirm the game’s release in 2023, on Switch of course.
In the meantime, the Pikmin license has had time to develop on mobile with Pikmin Bloom. This little game developed by Niantic on the same basis as Pokemon GO, but this time putting walking at the heart of the experience. It is thus a question of planting flowers while growing its Pikmin.
Pikmin 4 meanwhile did not show much. A few seconds of play at most, accompanied by a message from Miyamoto stating that the controls have been redesigned and significantly improved for the Switch. And if the Nintendo Direct was devoted to the titles planned for this winter, it seems unlikely to see the Pikmin bring back their adorable little heads before the second half of 2023.
