As the film was largely shot in the jungle, the forest of Puerto Vallarta in west central Mexico to be more precise, the cast and crew had to deal with leeches, snakes, as well as a high degree of humidity and heat.
The night scenes of the last part of the film were made when the temperature was very cold in the forest, to the great misfortune of Arnold Schwarzenegger (especially when he wears clay mud on his body).
To warm up, the comedian drank jagertee (a strong alcohol made from schnapps), which made him drunk and did not change much in terms of the cold. Note that the ex-governor fell ill and was hospitalized during the filming, causing him to lose almost 10 kilos.
Predator marks the first collaboration between Arnold Schwarzenegger and director John McTiernan. The two men will meet again in 1993 for the comedy Last Action Hero which will result in a major commercial flop.
Shane Black, a buddy movie specialist since we owe him, among other things, the scenarios for the four Lethal Weapons, plays in Predator the character of the soldier who loves dirty jokes and who is the first victim of the alien.
Courted three times by producers to rewrite Predator before and during filming (he refused the offer), Black was chosen many years later to write and direct the reboot of John McTiernan’s film.
It should also be noted that the screenwriter wrote the buddy movie The Last Samaritan (1992) during the filming of Predator and that he subsequently wrote the script for Last Action Hero directed by McTiernan and worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
